9th Annual Siouxland Film Festival

Saturday, February 23, 2013

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Siouxland Film Festival: Local winner is “Literally Thinking” from Skyler Trobaugh, and the National/International winner is “Beyond the Dead End” from Iran.

KTIV television in Sioux City has a story about our Local film winners.

Everyone loved most of the films and didn’t like some others very much — but the fun of it is that every person would pick different films for each category! This was one of the strongest batch of films we’ve shown over the years, and gives us great expectations for our 10th Festival next year.

Thank you to our sponsors, to the volunteers, Orpheum staff and friends in the media that helped get the word out. And very special thanks to the wonderful local filmmakers who made this year’s Festival very special. Hope to see you next year!

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Siouxland Institute of Film, Inc. and its creators have been working for 9 years to promote independent film in Siouxland, a tri-state area including parts of Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. With over 100,000 people living in the immediate area and marketing to thousands more that live nearby, we bring in films throughout the year and host the Film Festival. For the 9th year in a row, we will be bringing the Siouxland community together for one evening of entertainment, supplied by “local” independent movie-makers and those from around the world. It includes only short films, with a 15 minute length limit so that we may show more films. Once again, the event will be held at Sioux City’s historic Orpheum Theater, a 2400 seat renovated performance hall.

Our goal is to promote the art of film, to encourage and support young filmmakers, bring interesting films to the Orpheum, and have fun!
